Description

Another piece in my attempt to do a series of simpler, faster paintings; trying to get up to professional level speed. This was my first experiment with masking fluid, so I wouldn't have to be so careful in my application of paint. It seems to be a success.

This one feature's Captain Ivan Spurlock walking down some dusty street in the late afternoon. Getting that shadow looking right was tricky, I actually referenced my own cast shadow on the wall of the local university's woodworking shop.

This is the most high-contrast thing I've done in ages. It was also the fastest I've finished a pic in years, probably.

This pic feels very 70s to me, somehow.

I'm reminded of Randall Flagg, the "Walking Man" from the Stand by Stephen King.

It's really the shadow that hides his face, completely covers him even though it is broad daylight. It also helps that the scene in the book that introduce Flagg features him walking down the road.

BTW, just read the updated pages, and I'm glad to see you're making progress.
