Artist's Comments

The final version.

I regret my choice of paper on this one, stuff started breaking down as soon as I tried to give it a wash. And it faded some of the linework. I'm going back to board.

Anyhow, this one is a bit more modified in photoshop than I like. At the suggestion of :iconamazingtrout:, I overlaid the original ink drawing over the painting to give it more oomph.

I liked the result, so that's the version you see here.

This wasn't how I originally intended this pic to look, but the failure of the surface led me to end up making it a bit warmer and greener/browner than I wanted. Oh well.

I like how the blue-green of the background creates a moody atmosphere, especially when contrasted with the warm light from the building. Awesome detail on the scenery as well. :D

That was quick! Very atmospheric, as always. The linework overlay worked nicely... hell, there's no shame in a spot of surreptitious Photoshopping.

Dang, I always wish I could stroll through your drawings. The light, the ambience, the composition all work beautifully.

Dmitri, you know how we've always talked about the possibility of something going wrong with the Bomb… Well now, what happened is… ah… one of our base commanders… well, he went a little funny in the head… and, ah… he went and did a silly thing…

There's no shame in touching up your own art in Photoshop. Anyways, you can accomplish something similar on the actual painting by carefully going over your linework again anyway, can't you?

I suppose a week and a half was quick by my glacial standards. Would've been up even sooner if I didn't have to treat the darn paper like I was performing brain surgery.

As for the lighting, evenings have always been my favorite time of day because everything takes on this strange quality that makes even the most mundane scene seem rich and mysterious.

Is it not said that the realm of Faerie is bathed in perpetual twilight?

Thanks. Now I just need to find a lakeside and actually build this thing.

Ah, the break down of your support can result in many disappointments, especially if one is accustomed to planning such complex and detailed works as you are.

It still looks very nice although I'm sure it was even more impressive in your mind's eye. :)

Well, it was going to be more blue and have subtler colors, but this works too.
