City at Night by Benjamin-the-Fox City at Night by Benjamin-the-Fox
Oof!

That took about three days longer than I'd have hoped. Had to change my methods about halfway through, ended up doing it in a much more methodical method than I originally intended, but hey, can't argue with results.

I'm pretty happy with this, and I think I learned a lot, I just wish I'd been able to do it faster. Well, I can apply what I've learned on my next piece, and hopefully not make so many missteps.

Did you leave any subliminal messages in the building windows? ;)

Er... a subliminal question actually.

Namely, "Does this live up to the expectations established by the original sketch?" ;)

The original sketch had an energy to it, like how most sketches and gesture studies have.
However the final outcome is perfection. They're two completely different pieces.

Oh man, I would have written subliminal things with the lit windows. Like spelled things out in braille. "Stare into the sun" "Brush your teeth" "If can read this you're spending way too much time looking at this picture" "The meaning of life is" | <-edge of the building.

Hey! I'll have you know that I was mostly ripping off Blade Runner, not Akira, here!

...Of course since Akira was clearly influenced by Blade Runner anyway that doesn't mean much...

Oh Lord, why on earth would I try to put my work up against either Syd Mead or Katsuhiro Otomo? It's an exercise in masochism.
